Do you remember the 5th of november?
I can recall one year having completed the task of pushing the guy around the streets of scotstoun in an old pram, to get money for the fire works. With one job complete it was time to get to work on the bonfire. It was to be built with the wood we collected and stored in vaccant cellers. We built and built and built and in our young eyes it was the best bonfire in the whole of Glasgow and reaching far above the tenemants that surrounded it. We were proud of what we achieved and looked forward to a big night.
Suddenly a fire engine rolled in and soaked our precious bonfire (yes some nosy neighbour made the call). It must have been a real sight to see 20 or so children holding hands around the bonfire in protest and yelling for the firemen to leave us alone and our precious bonfire. But not to be stopped we waited till the time was right and brought in the reserves. That's right the wood that remained in the cellers untouched repaired the slight damage left behind by the firemen. It was quite anight
