I am a New Zealand woman who happened to marry a Scotsman. Back in 1967-69, we purchased a room and kitchen - one up, in the middle, at 113 Northpark St, Maryhill. It was all a new experience for me those days as we had two small children and no hot water, no bath and I took frequent trips to the Springbank Steamie to bath in those enormous baths, and do my washing in the washhouse - drying my clothes on the old pullout dryers. I was quite amused to see women walking down the road, pushing an old pram with a washboard tied onto the top!

Our little house didn't have the mod cons, but I have the fondest memories of the wonderful characters I met in the close. They showed me how to whiten the stairs, to clean the brasses, and to take my rubbish to the middens downstairs! The friendliness of the Glaswegians had made a great impression on me, and I'm tripping down Memory Lane when I visit the Tenement website!

Greetings from New Zealand

Sincerely

Mrs Gaynor Bonnar.
