Subject: Public school and Homeschool can be friends

I know a lot of people have bad experiences with schools, but I just had to share our recent experiences. Our schools are nice to homeschoolers and the school board is very homeschool friendly. Last week we had our evaluation with the school board woman in charge of homeschoolers (wife to a school board member) and she was very encouraging and positive. I brought a copy of Patchworks to show her what we were using and she said she thought schools should use unit studies.

Then today the teacher who runs the school science fair that we participate in each year brought over a plant for Brittany. At the science fair she was impressed that Brittany liked gardening and she told her about this exotic plant that her husband grew and told her she would start her a sprig and when it was big enough, bring it to her. I didn't think anything of it, but today she came bearing the plant. It was funny, too, because when she came over, there we were in Brittany's garden, staking her tomato plants.

Happy Homeschooling!
Sharon
