Subject: My thoughts on Patchwork Primers and a schedule question for you....
In reply to: Kris in TN 's message, "Vol. 2 is sounding so good to me ..." on 12:51:04 06/14/02 Fri

I am discussing purchasing the unit study with my husband. I do want to show my son the sample lesson too. I will probably order volume 2 next week. We are also discussing using Volume 3 the following year. I love the idea of World Geography, Cultures and Missions. One of my loves is geography. I was a geography tutor in college years ago. We will see how we do with Volume 2 this year. Sharon, I love your e-zine website. If this is what your unit study is like, I will love it. You have such great ideas for practical hands-on activities that I printed all of the selections off of the e-zine so that we can use the information. I can't wait to play some of the math games. I like your style of teaching. It is similar to ours. I am glad that you answered my question on the vegsource unit study board. I would not have looked up your site otherwise. I did look at the site last Winter, but only the American History Volume 1 was available. The sample lesson seemed to be more than I could do at the time, but I was extrememly overwhelmed with schooling my hyperactive son. Winters are hard on me physically and they are hard on my son since there are limited outlets for his abundance of energy. I hope that this Winter goes better. I have researched a lot about his learning style and am picking curriculum that will match how he learns. It sounds like Patchwork Primers will be a good fit for both of my boys. The oldest loves inventors and the youngest needs short hands-on lessons.

I am excited to plan next year's school schedule and am looking at a year round schedule with more frequent breaks. Would it be best to break after each unit rather than in the middle of a unit? We would probably do a certain amount of weeks on and then two weeks off. I have to look at the calendar to plan so I can make sure we have 36 weeks of school accounted for. We do not have these requirements in Michigan, but I want to be diligent in schooling my children. I appreciate your input since you designed the curriculum and know how to use it best. I am sure we will find our own style and pace after awhile.

Thanks for your input Sharon and Kris. You have both been a big help. I will definately post questions, thoughts and information as I get more acquainted with Patchwork Primers.

Blessings,

Liann
