Last year I started each day of the festival with a rough idea of who I wanted to see and which stages they were performing on. Things worked out, though I did find myself missing several of the bands I'd originally gone there to see. But the bands I caught that I didn't know anything about were some of the coolest performances of the entire weekend. So things balanced themselves out in the end. Personally, I am going to have a tough time choosing between Mike Gordon and the Allman Brothers Band, and between James Brown and Moe., but I also found last year that the stages were pretty accessible if you are one of those people who like to wander around instead of planting yourself in front of one particular stage all day. So there can be a little bit of mix-and-match in your choices. And yes, I agree with the post that says that they probably schedule the big bands at the same time to accommodate some type of "crowd control". But the diversity (and yes, even the scheduling "conflicts") also lend to the unique atmosphere of Bonnaroo as a whole, in that it forces you to expose yourself to bands/performers that you wouldn't otherwise see. If you come away from the entire weekend and only see the bands that you liked before the weekend started, in my humble opinion, you are missing half the fun of Bonnaroo. After last year's festival I came home with a huge list of bands that I wanted to explore a little more, and many of those bands are incredible! I couldn't believe I hadn't heard of them earlier. The best way to approach Bonnaroo is to have a rough idea of who you want to see, but also to keep in mind that festivals with this level of diversity require an open mind.
That being said, I am still going to have a hard time choosing between James Brown and Moe.

Happy Bonnaroovin' Ya'll!
