[ he abrupt change in mood startled him for a moment, but he recovered quickly-probably just into to loose it. well, not really in a freak-out sense. that was just not the question he'd been anxious to hear, though Briar realised he should have anticipated it. his hands uncomfertably slipped into his pockets, and he said:

"it was...it was good, I guess."

[ not much of answer if he was frank with himself, but at least the theif hadn't had to come out and admit he'd lost-not he'd done it in more of a sideways fashion. the gray-green eyes that had slipped to his boots came back up to meet her gaze as the fingers that had reached into his vest found the ring.
