 A growl comes from the bushes and they shake comically. Suddenly normal Briar leaps out, pinning Hali and laughing. "Scared ya just now didn't I?" he says, still laughing. Leaning over so only Hali can hear he whispers in her ear. "Don't you go blabbin' that, thanks all the same." Then he stood and looked around, seeing there faces. "What's wrong?" Seeing Ronnie he follows her. "What's this all about me?"

In his mind he was cursing; he'd been a fool to stay out so late. Now was wondering whether to tell her the truth or to hide it.
