His manner was cocky. He however, was not; just slightly confident. Briar replied in the same language.

"It's Briar. Not 'forest-boy'. And, if you must know, my grandmother was elf. That's what gave me looks and not real pointy ears (his mother was half, he is fourth)."

Suddenly a gray she-wolf stands beside him, growling and hackles raised at the panther. The boy flicks two fingers in her direction telling her no, and she quiets, but her ice-blue eyes remain fierce. She'd come swiftly and quietly, feeling Briar's command.
