I am not sure what to think of Carmen yet... the music is definitely more upbeat than the other operas we've seen, and it is more entertaining because I have heard a lot of it. However, I'm not sure how I feel about Carmen herself yet. She is, in a lot of ways, what every women wants to have a little part of in her. She is in control. I think she might be insane though, multiple personalities or something. I don't understand why she just can't be nice to Don Jose. She is so "in love" with him at first, and then completely does a 180. I don't particularly think Carmen is insane, but I do think she is very selfish. She only thinks of herself and what Don Jose can do for her, without regard to his feelings. It's not over yet though...
