I've been told it can take over 10,000 mi. to "break-in" the newer engines. Plus, I get better mileage on the 89 octane fuel. (might be worth a try?) I average about 17 mpg city and 20 mpg highway. (Keep an eye out for front tire wear, the steering will feel kind of numb, mine had WAY too much toe-in, that can hurt mileage too.)
