Date Posted: 12:00:41 07/29/02 Mon Ok, I've been having an issue that I'd like to spread the news on. My truck has been over heating since the outdoor temps in Pa have hit above 90 degrees. As some of you may know, I had an Electronic Fan installed on my truck for about 1 year now. This is the first I've hit the above 90 degrees since It's been installed. The Black magic Electric fan IS NOT BIG ENOUGH to cool the truck when outside temps are above 90 and your running the Air Conditioning. If you don't plan on using your Air when it's hot out, the mod was a nice performance increase, but If you plan on using it, don't run the air. I feel like I got robbed in this issue, I don't like putting stuff on my truck that I know won't work. Going through all the popular web sites, this was the fan to use and the one that Flex-a-Lite recommends. I use my truck daily, and more now with the Camper and I can't see the benifit of the e-fan if I can't run the Air while driving. While sitting in traffic, the Temp gauge would just slowly climb, while moving it worked fine. I even added a second fan to stop the temp from climbing but it didn't work. I re-installed the LARGE stock clutch fan and it's been fine ever since. I don't know the exact numbers of CFM on the stock clutch fan, but I know its anywhere between 3000 CFM to 5500 CFM from what I could find out and the Electric fan is rated at 2800 CFM. Big difference. Black magic (Flex-A-Lite) says, cause the fan runs all the time, it should be sufficient to keep the truck Cool. That statement is not true. I've tried 160 therm, 180 therm, 2 electric fans, and a Trans Cooler, and it still wasn't enough. So that LARGE stock fan went back on yesterday and I wanted to spread the word on this mod. Something Else I've found out about this was the earlier 96-98 models have a thicker Radiator core than what's in the 2001-2002 Crew Cab models. I don't know this for sure, but maybe thats why those earlier year trucks stay cool with the efan and mine didn't. Sorry for the run on, just wanted to make sure someone else didn't make the same mistake that I did thinking the e-fan would keep the truck cool in the warmer temps. I liked this mod alot, but what's the point if the e-fan doesn't keep the truck cool. I HATE THROWING MONEY AWAY!!! [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
