My new baby boy was my primary excuse but I did need something to carry my dirt bike around without a trailer. Second reason is that my 89 Trooper is a stick so my wife can't drive it so with the baby we needed two cars she could drive just in case one is down for what ever reason.
I too was a mini-crew cab lover also and very upset that we in the states did not have one. I started looking at used FullSize Crew Cabs and the prices for used were crazy. The 2002 1500HD Crew is very nice but the price, size, MPG, and availability were factors against it. The Toyo Crew was top rated but too pricey and availability. Nissan with Supercharger was very nice plus the option of a fullsize bed was a plus. Downfall for the SC was requirement of 93 octane and color choices(almost everyone was yellow or racing red). I tried finding an SE(non super charged version) but none were available in my area with a fullsize bed. Insurance was not much more than the s10 Crew BTW; but all the crews I looked at were all more than my 01 Trooper even though the MSRP on the trooper was over 5k more! lots of s10 owners are young(aka Extreme models) so premiums are higher. Trooper owner medium age is much higher so premiums are much lower.
The press did not review the crew that well but liking the looks of it, I checked chevy's website and was suprised to see the ZR5 package. A friend of mine had a ZR2 once so I really liked them. The ZR2 look of the ZR5 sold me on the Crew. Luck would have it that a dealer near me just got probably the first ZR5 to my area that week so I could test drive it. The "bad" reviews on the crew was lack of style and no adjustment in the seats. None of the reviews said the crew was bad, just that it was a plain crew. So the ZR5 package, power seats, and big rebate made it for me. I was thinking about waiting for the new Crew but when I found out it won't be out until a 2004 model, and with the 3k rebate, it made the crew the winner.

Cheers,
Con
