Commenting as a non-musician fan, and as one who is rather musically illiterate - couldn't give you the definition of legato or tall you how a song is composed - I can nevertheless appreciate your post. I remember hearing Shawn on POT in the early 90's and immediately connecting with him on a spiritual and inspirational level. What struck me was the commitment to excellence and the disciplne and the dedication necessary to get there: better than a self-help book set in the language of some of the cosmos' most beautiful music. Mellifluous majesty.

What concerns me most is the musical dross passing as musical virtuosity that gluts the market presently.I can't find one current article on Lane, but everytime I look up, so-called guitar mags boast that Korn or some other outfit has the best guitar player(-s). I like Tom Morello, but he is simply not Shawn's superior on the guitar, or even musically.Sometimes I wonder, too, if it isn't just that Shawn's music satisfies a certain segment of the music community but also that he simply does not have the sex-symbol/bad boy image apparently needed to be a smash in the music world.

In any evrent, all of this to say that I am uncetain how Shawn will ultimately fare in the music world. On the one hand, I know that he is muisc and melody become flesh, dissolving time and space between spirit and sound; on the other, though, the music industry and its consumers prefers simple a,b,c type music, despising complexity and hating, it seems, virtuosity and the love of music for music's sake. Here's hoping that God will bless Shawn finanically and musically via what seems to be a resurgence of Fusion music, and that his music, and its kind, will outlive him for when the world comes to its senses.
