In the 80s he played a Roland guitar/guitar synth. On his first instructional, Power Licks, he said that Ibanez made him a guitar based on the specifications of the Roland in the early 90s. If you've seen the Ibanez jam where he blew Via, Satch, Gilbert, Timmons and Beach off the stage, it's that guitar. He also stated that Ibanez produced the original Rolands at some point.
