Subject: Re: 1999 Ford F150 with 5.4L will not crank
In reply to: Robert L. 's message, "Re: 1999 Ford F150 with 5.4L will not crank" on 07/13/02 2:36pm

I found the problem. The symptoms of the problem were that the starter would not crank and the radio would not play. I installed a new battery and felt like there could only be three things that could cause the no crank problem. First the computer could have gone south with its memory and its security lock out, second the starter might be bad, and finally the starter solenoid.

The security light did not flash rapidly and there were no computer codes so I thought (hopefully) the computer was good. I decided to replace the cheapest thing first, the solenoid.

The starter solenoid (located on the firewall under some plastic covering) was the problem.

Thanks
Ray P
