These two types of distributors...TD31U & TD34U are supposed to be compatible or interchageable. I recently changed the distributor on my '91 Accord SE, originally equipped with TD34U, with an aftermarket TD31U. Since then I been having this constant issue with the car. If I start the car and shut it off within a few minutes, anywhere between 3-5 minutes, the car refuses to start again. The only way I can get it to start is to remove one of the (spark plug)wires connected to the distributor and gap it slightly from the connection and have someone crank up the ignition. If I leave the car running for a longer period of time I don't experience this problem. Always thought it was the aftermarket distributor but now I replaced it with Honda distributor and its doing the same exact thing. The only replacement type available from Honda is the TD31U type. Honda parts dept. insist they are one and the same and should be compatible, and the TD34U is no longer available. I'm thinking there's got to be a difference between the two. Perhaps any of you guys can recommend anything to remedy my issue.
