Great! Glad you got it fixed.

In case you're wondering, the spark plugs on this model are in the center of the cylinder, and so there is cylindrical passage that goes right in the middle of the valve cover that the spark plug wire goes in. If the seal between the valve cover and the head in this area leaks, the cavity around the spark plug fills with oil. The oil can cause the spark plug wire to deteriorate, and then you can have the spark jumping to the head versus sparking inside the engine. So, you get an intermittent spark and the engine runs badly. You also get raw fuel in the exhaust, and so you can get a bad smell.

He changed the plug wires because they were deteriorated probably, he changed the plugs because he was in there and it was probably time, and then he replaced the seals to keep the oil out.

Glad its working good now. That's a great car - as long as you like it and enjoy driving it (and it isn't rusted out!), I'd keep it. You'll be money ahead!....Glen
