I've never done, it, but have crawled under a friends dash (93 Accord) and I can see it....I've not heard the you HAVE to remove anything besides the bolt holding the relay, but it may be easier to remove things. But, you can probably do it if you're good working by feel and not by sight!

By the way, I was not aware of the 88s having the bad solder joint issue in the relay, but I'm not 100% sure.... Good luck, glen
