Yes Jasper...

They are pressed on and they are a pain in the butt to do yourself. So your first mechanic is right. However, if they aren't below minimum thickness and can be turned, some shops are set up to turn them on the car. It's more expensive than off-the-car turning, though.

I've replaced them on both my daughter's Accords.

Look back in the archives. I have previously posted what I had to go through to replace them.
