Are you getting any codes in the computer? I think it is under the drivers seat, looking toward the front - slide the seat all the way forward, ignition in "run".

First check that all your vacuum lines are connected and not leaking.

Then, I'd suspect your coolant temperature sensor (TW sensor). It is the one farthest from the bleed bolt on the thermostat housing (the one closest to the head). The other one is for the radiator fans.

When it is "hunting" next time, disconnect the TW sensor, and see if that stops the surging and sets a code. I'm guessing that the sytem thinks the engine is warm, tries to drop the idle speed, realizes its not warm, then goes back to high idle.

Try that first, and post back. You might also have a bad fast idle air bypass valve, but that tends to make the car idle faster than normal when warmed up....glen
