Hi Denise;

You may have overlooked Glen's post titled "Some other ideas". He has added some other great troubleshooting suggestions for checking the cooling fan.

However, as you have mentioned in your previous posts, this may be beyond you or your husbands ability or desire to proceed. If so, the mechanic may be your best choice. There are so many things to consider when troubleshooting, and it must be done in a methodical sequence to insure good components aren't unnecessarily replaced. Based on your problem description, the proper operation of the cooling fan must be ruled out first. If it turns out that the cooling fan is not operating, it could be the temperature switch, relay, fan, timer, wiring, connections, etc. It could also be a fuse, but they usually don't blow unless there is another problem.

In response to your question about the condenser fan...

Both fans (cooling and condender) are controlled by the "Cooling Fan Timer". All schematics and descriptions in my manual are pretty vague when describing it's function. It is always depicted as a box with 8 wires. There are also various signals to the ECU (computer) including engine temperature, when the system is calling for cooling, etc. From the manual, it's hard to discern the complete theory of operation. And (based on the info in the manual) I'm not sure if all of these are "inputs" to the ECU. There is one wire that might be an output to turn on both fans. The manual has conflicting information, but if this is an output, both fans may be turn on from the ECU...(not sure)...and if both fans should be on, maybe you're hearing the condenser fan only.

The best way to make sure the COOLING fan (passenger side) is running, is to look when the engine is overheating. Then you can be certain and this will be valuable information for your mechanic for him to begin troubleshooting.

Hope this helps, and sorry for all the trouble you're having. Hang in there, though. Don't get discouraged. These little Accords are great.

Please let us know how it turns out, and have a great Thanksgiving...

Mike
