Hi Karen;

It's not too difficult...

If you are replacing the gaskets to prevent water from entering the trunk, I would suggest just replacing the 2 gaskets on the outside (body) taillights and see if that stops the leak. Water draining off the car flows into the gutters around the trunk lid and dumps right on top of the outside tail lights. Water usually enters here. If you find the taillights in the trunk lid leaking, you can replace those later.

Remove the covers behind the outside taillights in the trunk liner. You will also need to pull the plastic liner out of the way to access the nuts.

Disconnect the electrical connector.

On my Accord, there was a plastic cable holder that was securing the wiring harness. This plastic holder was pushed on to one of the mounting studs. If I recall, it had a plastic flap that locked the wire harness in place. You have to release the flap and hinge it out of the way, remove the wire harness, and you should be able to unscrew the plastic holder from the stud. Then you can access the nut.

Remove all 4 nuts from the studs. Use a nut driver if you have one. (The nut driver has a hollow shaft that will fit over the long screw.)

Remove the light assembly.

Clean the area where the new gasket will seal on the body.

Remove the old gasket and clean the light assy.

Replace with the new foam gasket. No sealant is necessary.

Reinstall the fixture and tighten the 4 nuts. Just snug tight. Don't overtorque them. You just want to compress the new foam gasket enough to form a seal.

Press the plastic cable holder onto the stud and secure the wire harness.

Connect the electrical connector.

Replace the plastic trim and cover.

You're done...

Hope this helps.
Merry Christmas.

Mike
