Not sure of the problem. Is it the inner or outer boot you had to cut? I'm betting it is the outer (at the wheel), and you did not remove the "fork" from the strut and lower control arm. You have to completely remove the fork (pinch bolt at the top and a through bolt at the bottom where the lower arm is). The lower bolt is notorious for being almost impossible to remove because it rusts itself to the sleeve in the lower control arm bushing.

If it is the inner boot interfering, then perhaps you didn't remove the splash shield?...glen
