Subject: Theory on *gasp* Spike

I know, I know. I don't like to hear about Spike but hey this kinda has me intrigued. I was reading some stuff from WTP and it was discussing Dawn and her becoming more important next season. While I've been annoyed with her much in the past and I'm not a fan of her becoming the star of her own show. A though crossed my mind.

Lets go back to Restless. This seems to be a corner stone to the whole show right? Spike as a watcher. Spike as Buffy's watcher, never gonna happen. Cause it really just doesn't work. Spike doesn't have the right kinda authority over Buffy to fill that role with her. However. Spike could potentially be that kinda guy to Dawn, assuming he doesn't turn back to the evil ways. Who knows maybe Spike will even become more than we expected. But I've heard alot of talk from NB interviews and SMG interviews that they dont' intend to come back, however very little has been said about JM and MT. And I know Marti has made it clear they could do more stories.

Now I'm not a huge fan of them going ahead with Dawn the vampire slayer, but I could live with the Dawn Spike coupling in this form (nothing sick about that) It would actually make some sense with Dawn now not trusting Spike at the beginning of this season. They always seem to like to turn these story lines around. And I could see them using the antagonism between Dawn and Spike as a part of their storyline in future seasons.

Of course this theory I like because well, it gives Spike and Dawn both storylines that don't involve Buffy heavily.....I'm sure you can all figure out why I like that.

I think the show needs Buffy. hello! It's frickin "BUFFY the vampire slayer" Joss made his film into a programme, so he could tell Buffy's story.
I can cope with Dawn/Spike story if it was a spin off. however, not if it was the same show. it would be wrong. i couldn't live with it, really. it would totally go against the "quit while you're ahead" thing. i'd watch it, sure, but i'd have this nasty gut feeling that my favourite show had ended totally wrong - well, not ended, but carried on without Buffy or Xander? no. i couldn't go with that.

:-) Spike could be Buffy's sparring partner. Train with her. Not the whole Watcher duties.

Spike and Dawn .... yeah, I can see him helping her out, watching over her to protect her. But OMG I would have a hard time watching with my eyes closed and my ears plugged!!! Ewwwww ..... Dawn.

*sigh*

As far as building the relationship up, yes prolly a good idea. This is another loose end. And Rach, yes, it's about Buffy, but the other storylines bring some interest and impact to the main characters story. So it's all good, as long as there is balance. I do not think there was balance last season.

The thing is, Last season was about Buffy and Spike Tara and Willow and Xander and Anya. and it was pretty much those pairings and how they fucked up on eachother all around. I don't want to watch them fuck around with the same pairings agian this season, and I"m not just talking relationship wise. I'm talking storylines. Spike and Dawn can have an intertwined storyline without being involved with eachother. Where as last season there was only minor interraction between the non couples and when it did happen it was rarely character developing in any good or bad way. the only time it really happened was in the last episode or 2.

So even if it means no relationships I would like to see some Buffy Xander interraction some Willow Anya talking some Dawn Spike training and Giles with them all. I'm just generalizing here but I want to mix it up a little not keeping them always in their little patterns.

I'm tired of the depression that was BS XA and WT of season 6. I think the writers are realizing that the characters need to get out an breath. Stretch out into other areas. Don't leave us feeling all dead inside.

I was responding to your comment you couldn't see Spike as a Watcher. I can't either. More like a sparring partner. Not B/S.

And the Dawn/Spike relationship was left high and dry. So, yes, I guess it would be good to see it picked up and dusted off again.

But, I'm with you, no more dark!!! If B/S can't be light and happy and healthy .... then fuhget about it!!! ;-)

But I just think they can't really do it differently from this point on because season 7 will always shadow over what ever they would try to do. Seeing Red and Dead Things will always be there to haunt them. I can understand then coming together and learning to respect one another and trust one another next season but having alot of difficulty seeing them doing the nasty (and in their case it was literally nasty ;)
