If we're not at war with the citizens of Iraq, please tell me why we're there? And please tell me why 95% of the deaths are civilian deaths?

This whole war thing is as amorphous as Jello, as slippery as an eel. The reasons for it change more often than I change my socks.

First we're there because of 9-11. Oh, that's right! It was Arabs responsible for 9-11. Really we're there because there are WMDs. But there are no WMDs. OK, the real REAL reason we're there is to get Saddam. Now Saddam's dead. So now really truly we're there to give them freedom. Except that they are dying faster under our rule than under Saddam's. OK, the real REAL really real reason we are there is because of the terrorists. Wait, isn't that where we started?

Can we just be honest here for a moment? When this war started in 2003 Iraq had never threatened us, nor was it capable of harming us. Period. We attacked a country that had no harmful intentions towards us. Everything that has followed--insurgents, suicide bombers, sectarian violence, etc--EVERYTHING has been as a direct result of our having invaded a non-hostile country.

And as Jay pointed out, the only fig-leaf of legality this war ever had was Congress's green light. But the war continues even though Congress has revoked its approval. So this war is now illegal, immoral and unconstitutional in every sense of those words.
