I was watching some anti war rallies and oh the language!
The Tacoma police were lined up at a certain point outside the gates of Fort Lewis and the pottymouths of the protestors!

Anyway, the irony of the UCMJ isn't lost on me Jay. But the reasons for it is pretty much the same reason we don't criticize church leaders.

Insubordination would ensue at all levels and would we ever get to the truth? E. Watada is no hero for doing this while on active duty. Even the deserter isn't going to get shot, though that is the punishment for desertion.
He will get a seven year sentence, but not the bad conduct
discharge.

The deserter I could understand...to a point. He was a medic, applied for CO status (which the military turned down based on their stop loss policy) and then deserted.
I don't think it would have hurt the army to put him in a non combat support position as a CO.

But that is just me and the usual re: mileage.
