I dislike Kerry for many reasons; his waffling and his voting record in the Senate. Politics aside, looking at his career is a big red flag for me. However, there are people who do serve with distinction regardless of station and political affiliation. The recruiting stats show that enlistment from more affluent zip codes is higher than it is from poorer areas of the US.

How one feels about one's wealth and privelege? It depends on if they have the attitude of noblesse oblige, where much is given, much is expected. To take that literally, and to use Kerry as an example, his charitable contributions are small, but this man expects other people to pony up.

While this can be said of people on both sides of the politica spectrum, the statistics show that conservatives donate more money than their liberal counterparts; as well as volunteer more time than liberals.

No one likes anything that is compulsory or mandated, except those who are generous with other people's lives and means.
