He gave a conference address in 1966 regarding the United Order and socialism. It's a pretty good talk, although, I still have some on going debate about what the United Order really was. There was a book written many years ago, I believe it was entitled, Joseph Smith's United Order in which the author very clearly describes the differences between JS's "united order" which was the one described in the D&C and Brigham Young's "united order" which bore little resemblence to the D&C. The UO that we typically talk about today is BY's. That is the one that people confuse with socialism/communism.

FWIW, the JS's united order didn't fail. It simply was reorganized from what was originally and legally formed as a limited partnership, to a trust with JS as the trustee. We still have the UO today. But we call it "The Corporation of the President". It is the financial arm of the church.
