that troubles me the most is the disciplining someone who disagreed with the church's position. We (meaning the church, church members) should never expect, much less require, uniformity of thought. I find that very troubling.

Using church stationery? The church risked serious legal repurcussions for that, unless it was reported as a campaign donation (which I highly doubt). I object to the church giving monetary support. Moral support, OK. Making clear to members the moral/doctrinal issues at stake, OK. Encouraging invovement, OK. But not physical or financial contributions. How's that for splitting hairs? :D

I agree--there are some issues that church has supported that I believe they clearly crossed the line and had no business speaking out, the most recent being the War in Iraq.
