I agree with you two that it was not a question that should have been asked in such a public forum.
You are right the father should now talk to his son about what is a private matter and what could be an almost impossible subject to talk about for a serviceman in public unless that is what the forum was all about.

Right now I exspect the father and son are feeling very defensive because of the overboard nature of the schools response. With kids, especialy teenagers, you have to be very concreat and let them know what the rules are. We cant just exspect them to know unless someone at some time has told them or taught them what we exspect as far as behavior from them.

You guys are right the school lost out on a teaching moment. They are blaming the kid for their lack of setting up rules for questions to begin with.
If they had I can see some form of punishment but if the punishment does not fit the crime the kid(s) will learn nothing except they can push the bottons of those who should be in charge.
