Subject: is anyone reading here?

We all have different "takes" on politics. There was some "discussion" with Leif about religion in politics--specifically LDS church leaders who don't take political stands, but seem to be supporting whatever American administration is in "power".

And I wanted to post a refutation of sorts--not to be unkind; Leif doesn't seem to be here anymore.

That's sad.

This may seem to be an LDS apology, but it would work as well for a Christian apology, and YET it is really an apology for social stability.

I've read the old (no longer published, hard to find) book on social stability by social historian Carle Zimmerman, who said:

"The (stem, i.e. stable) family (is) optional for every age." It develops "among all peple who combine the benefits of agriculture, industry, and settled life with the common sense idea of defnding their private life from the domination of legislators, from the invasion of bureaucrats, and from the exaggerations of the manufacturing regime."
Its root requirement was and is a people of CHARACTER, sustained by faith and guided by a love of liberty, who understand the intertwined perils of materialism and oppression.

To be VERY simplistic, these stable cultures which provide SAFETY for families HONOR their elderly, do nothing radical or drastic (do NOT move quickly towards unknown ends); they are NOT anarchistic or revolutionary; revolutions must be carefully thought out, and the reason the American Revolution was so successful was because it was so poorly engineered . . . men wanted to farm, not make war. They wanted to be home with their wives; the revolution succeeded, because God was behind it, not because war is inherently good, and often revolutions cause more harm than good.
STABLE societies are made up of STABLE families. STABLE families cherish babies and take care of old ones, respecting their wisdom. They love books. They love trees. They reject crass consumerism.

Is America stable? Individual families MAY be.

Our leaders (LDS especially) move slowly, ponder things carefully, don't incite riot and rebellion . . .

They understand the principles of longevity, for societies as well as for individuals.

So, look for trees (President Hinckley is a good example of that; he spent a lifetime planting and caring for them) and for strong families that care for their elderly and welcome their babies, and you see the best that heaven can do on earth.

Anyone want to talk about this in relationship to what is happening in the world?

Debbie?

Kathy?

Chuck?

Eppy?

Leif?
