Unlimited immigration would be destructive to the fabric and character of our nation. Remember the movement for LPers to all move to Maine and when a majority is there to vote that the state seceed? There's a similar idea going on for funamentalist Christians moving to S Carolina and do the same thing. Unlimited imigration would have the same effect on our nation.

No, if imigration is to be healthy--for the long-time citizens as well as the new-comers--it needs to be limited in number and kind. We should limit those from countries who's religious, philosophical and cultural mores are dramatically different from our Western, Judeo-Christian ethos. I know, that sounds racist, but it's a fact that the melting-pot processing requires that the incomers change and adapt to our system at least as much, if not more, than they change our culture. We cannot assimilate or meld if we are dramatically outnumbered and if the incomers are dramatically different.

We should also be able to limit those who cannot contribute at all to our society--disabled, sick, mentally incapable, etc. Those people might be allowed (but NOT those who have communicable diseases) IF they can prove they have family already here who will support them.

But you're right--there should be no privileges for the incomers. Be we have to acknowledge that the mass imigratioon is, in large part, our own making. US economic nad foriegn policy has systematically corrupted, bankrupted and impoverished countless 3rd World countries. They come here because we have stripped them of everything in their own countries--even hope of reform from within. Our imperialism is literally coming home to roost.
