I went to an electronics superstore about 6 months ago when a TV crapped out. I bought a new TV and a $9 flashlight. The next day, I found the flashlight didn't work so I returned it that evening. While in the store because of the return, I "impulse bought" two color printers to the tune of $400. When I got to the checkout, the cashier started ringing me up and then left. I watched as he had a huddle with a manager for 5 minutes, watched the manager go to his office, come back, have another huddle, call another manager and then the head cashier, check his computer, etc.

After 15 minutes of waiting, the manager came back and told me that he could not accept my check because I had made a purchase yesterday. They do not allow two purchases in 24 hours with checks. He wasn't able to contact the bank, since it was closed so it wasn't a case of a bad check, they just don't take a chance. I wouldn't give him the pleasure of using a credit card. I walked out and went to their competitor. I've never gone back and never will.

I couldn't believe they would trash a $400 spur-of-the-moment buying spree. Used to be, stores lived for that. Not anymore. The retailer's attitude nowadays is that they are doing YOU a favor when you shop in their store, not the other way around.
