Yes, Benedryl is safe to give. I'm very surprised that your vet doesn't know the dosage...while it's not uncommon for the vast majority of vets to know nothing about Cresties, IMO all vets should know the benedryl dosage. The proper dosage is 1 mg per pound of weight i.e., 10lb dog gets 10 mg.

If your baby is flying in cabin with you, you could probably get away with using Benedryl, but if the dog is flying in cargo hold, they do not allow drugs of any kind.

You can buy an all natural product to relieve anxiety/stress. One is Rescue Remedy and the other is made by Homeopets and is called Anxiety. Both of these come in liquid formula. For pending incoming thunderstorms, you can place drops in the water dish (depends on the size of the dish how many you put in) to keep the dog on an even keel all day. For sudden storms, fireworks, or 15-30 before any stressful activity such as nail trims, grooming, etc., you place 3-5 drops on the tongue. Rescue Remedy is the most well known, but I personally, prefer the Anxiety. I believe it works better than the RR.

Next time you see your vet, tell him/her that other than some skin issues & dental issues, CCs are, for the most part, absolutely no different than any other breed. Tell him/her to treat them like he would any other sighthound. Two vaccinations that should be avoided are lepto and lyme, most CCs have an intolerance to these vaccines and, if possible, have vaccines given separately. When anesthetized, CCs, like sighthounds, do better with isoflourene.

Hope that helps some.
