I can't be positive, but this was a typical symptom of a bad CMOS battery. The other is when the computer forgets the date and time.

If I recall correctly, if the CMOS battery wasn't accessible via the RAM cover, then it required almost the whole computer to be taken apart. I know the battery was a Maxell, but not sure of the part number.
