I was on the 'Arry' from 1950 to 1952. Aged thirteen when I joined! Still remember those cross-country runs, climbing the foremast, getting 'cuts' for misbehaviour and 200 duty-free fags a month at two bob a hundred! Was going to join the 'Merch' as a steward till "Tiny" Fuller convinced me I was really good at Comms and persuaded me to join the Royal! I then went to HMS Ganges from 1952 to 1953. Whilst there I changed my name from Gibbs to Longley as my mother re-married - took me weeks to re-sew my name in all my clothing. My first ship after leaving Ganges was the Aircraft Carrier "Implacable". Finally left the R.N. in 1964. Anyone remember me??
