Subject: Information request: HMS Dapper

I am currently researching family history and discovered recently that my GG Grandfather, John Richard Harris was a
cadet's servant serving in Dartmouth and llisted in the 1881 census under "HMS Dapper", Townstall, Dartmouth. So far in the history books I can only find reference to the training ships HMS Britannia and HMS Hindustan (see picture on this website).

HMS Dapper is listed at this website under "Sea Training Ships" and the full set of entries for the 1881 census (e.g. cadets, training officers, bandsman and domestic servants) are given.

Can anyone provide more information on the history of HMS Dapper and perhaps the role of a "Domestic Second Class" in the early 1880's?

Thanks

John Clarke
