Subject: Watts Naval Training School

I was at Watts (WNTS) from 1949 until it closed as a naval training establishment in 1949 when I, together with many other boys was transferred to the Parkstone Sea Training School(PSTS)in Dorset.I left PSTS in 1951 to join the Rhine Staff Band of the Royal Tank Regiment then stationed in Hohne,Germany. I am proud to say that the training I received at WNTS and PSTS stood me in good when coping with the demands of service life during the 'cold war' period during the 1950s and 1960s.I believe my number at Watts was 123 and I was soon recruited into the school band. Other ex.WNTS and PSTS boys who joined the Rhine Band included Geoffrey Poulter,Ted Robyns and Johnny Crackle. Geoffrey Poulter was killed in an accident in East Germany and is buried in Berlin. I left the army in 1965 and worked in local government in Norfolk until I took early retirement in 1995.
