Jack- I apologise for not finding your email on the Seamens Orphanage before now but the Orphanage letters are usually printed in a separate section and yours seems to have escaped. I was at the school with John Whittingham but my old memory seems to remember another boy and I think a girl of that name. I was there from 1940 to 1947 and I am now 71 so I suppose I could be as old as your Grandfather. Did your family live in Kirkdale? I remember going to Whittingham's house during school holidays and feel sure it was in the end street before the railway bridge-my old memory again??? Should you want any further information on life at the Orphanage there is an ex-scholar named George Bennett who lives in Upton on the Wirral who has written 2 books on that subject-his last on was only printed and distributed to interested people in June this year. I now live in south Australia and received my copy only two days ago and have read and enjoyed it. The new book is called "Orphans Without Tears" and can be obtained by contacting George. His email address is George.Bennett1@btinternet.com andn his home address is 7 Larkhill Avenue,Upton,Wirral,Merseyside. It's great to hear from you Jack and hope you can find a bit more information. Please keep in touch-I may be able to tell you some tales of our life in the RLSO
My email address is piparth@bigpond.net.au should you wish to contact me
Warmest Regards Pete Arthur
