Subject: THE CENTURY....HUMANITY'S INVENTION

The century.... humanity's invention
Another silly creation
Keeping track of history
In chunks

Bits and pieces
Some only seeing bits
Even ones that grab pieces
Usually see only three-quarters

But that's average of course
Of course most are average
Regular lives
Many ending in unnatural ways

Pondering the ages
In segments of one hundred
Some living out most of one
Others just part of the next

Fascinated by those who last
Through a whole one
Then part of another
Crazy what entertains these Earthlings

Living vicariously in past lives
Not their own
As if dissatified with their part
Of that ticking mortal bomb

Yet when that one century
They get to see.... ends
So lucky they feel
Drinking themselves numb

Better to live a day at a time
Really truly it could be your last
So much time wasted
Re-living your past

But especially that of others
Happy they did so well
Or that you did better
Making no difference on each side

So as this so-called century ends
And you wake up tomorrow
Greet and live out a new day
For even another year

May be too much to ask
