Subject: U.S. news? Oh, you mean the daily press releases from the pentagon.

You might think that's an exaggeration. But unfortunately, the delivery you describe on CNN is typical of the newscasts down here. And CNN is actually often charged with being "liberal". At least Fox news is fairly open about their conservative bent. It really is amazing: as ownership of media outlets has become more and more concentrated into the hands of fewer and fewer rich, white guy-types, many folks'll still argue themselves blue that the American media is "liberal." For a quick overview, you'd probably be interested in this brief bit about media consolidation that recently aired on PBS's Now with Bill Moyers.

Your post reminded me of something. Just a couple of nights ago on one of the big network news shows (either CBS or ABC, I can't remember which), a satellite photo of somewhere in Iraq was being shown on the news. The newscaster said it showed some movement of the Iraqi military, and pointed out little dots that he described as, "tank transport vehicles" that purportedly had been moved in the past couple of days. Eric turned to me and said, "Tank transport vehicles? Hell, didn't they used to be called 'trucks'?"

Another show you might not have seen up there, Comedy Central's The Daily Show, had Monty Python's Eric Idle on tonight. He said we're going about this all wrong; if the Bush administration really wants a regime change over in Iraq, they should just send them the U.S. Supreme Court. :)
