Ego's Demise

In all the years that I've spent
Accumulating knowledge and insight
So many are the times I'm lent
To believing in each case I'm right

I believe that if I feel as such
That all should follow my lead
You're opinions don't matter much
So it reasons mine you should heed

I know my ego's my biggest fan
There's not much I can do
It's part of who and what I am
And it's even a part of you

We all need to feel self-worth and
To know that we are needed
And sometimes even make a stand
As our ideals to others are pleaded

This is just fine in many cases
As long as compassion is used
We fall quickly from God's graces
If only in our thoughts we're fused

Only once we cross death's door
And step through Heaven's gate
This crutch we will need no more
Like our bodies it shares same fate.
