Greed

It grows deep in all of us, subdued
and ineffective, kept at bay. Lurking,
ready to pounce and gain control
of all and everything we are and could be.
Waiting in the shadows of our souls
for the time when it can invade our reason
and govern every thought and reaction
with swift and unforgiving action. Destroy
all that is right and good replacing all noble
thought with anger, despair and desolation.
Creating monsters of us all, defiling all we
once held dear, tearing out our very hearts and
replacing them with stone. Beware and be
forewarned, hold it at bay .Heed not its
pleas for freedom, keep it imprisoned in
its own misery. Beat back its frequent
quests for rule, shackle it to the walls of
your deepest being and heed not it's calls.
For if you relent, it will be you shackled
and screaming for freedom from its hold.
