Subject: Miss Earth 2005

• THE NEW MISS EARTH is Alexandra Braun of Venezuela (above photo, second from left) who was crowned in Manila's University of the Philippines Theater last night. Braun defeated over eighty delegates. Her court includes Miss Earth-Air Amell Santana of the Dominican Republic, Miss Earth-Water Katarzyna Borowicz of Poland, and Miss Earth-Fire is Jovana Marjanovic of Serbia & Montenegro. Braun also won the Best in Swimsuit award. The quarter finalists included the delegates from Puerto Rico (Best in Long Gown), Chile (Miss Photogenic) USA and Paraguay. The semi-finalists included the reps from Bosnia & Herzegovina, Czech Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Korea (Best National Costume), Philippines, Russia, and Tanzania. Ukraine won Miss Talent and Canada was elected Miss Friendship. Pond's, one of the major sponsors, chose five delegates with the most beautiful skin: Korea, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Poland and the Dominican Republic. Borowicz was third in last year's Miss World. Braun's victory makes Venezuela as the second country after Brazil to have won all four grand slam pageants, maintaining its supremacy in international pageantry.
