Date Posted: 17:39:04 06/17/02 Mon *he walks out to the paddock and slips a halter over his colt's well-shaped head, then leads the powerful bay out of the paddock and cross ties him in the barn "Good Boy, HC" he praises as he grooms the almost 3 year old horse and tacks him up. the colt blows in his face and noses him lightly, asking to get his face rubbed. Mikki runs his hand down the horses face and slips the bit into his mouth, tightens his helmet and leads the horse into the indoor riding ring. He lounges the colt for 15 minutes, making him walk, trot and canter before he mounts and guides the horse into a smooth, ground-eating walk, perfectly on the bit. he constantly praises the horse and asks for circles, figure 8's and direction changes so the colt doesn't get bored. then he asks for a trot. the bay moves into a stringy, fast, bouncy trot. Mikki sits deeper and sponges his fingers lightly, asking the horse to collect his strides and move properly. Finally, the horse responds and moves into a wonderful trot. Mikki praises him and then asks for a walk and does several walk/trot transitions until the horse is moving into a nice trot instantly. then he asks for a short canter. HC picks up the wrong lead on the first try but then moves into a smooth, flowing canter, his long legs covering the ground in fluid, eager strides. after going around the ring once he asks the colt to stop. then he changes direction and asks for the canter again. the colt moves eagerly into a canter and throws in a few bucks and hops for show. Mikki sits expertly, riding through the bucks like that was what he had asked for. soon the colt settles into an easy canter. after a lap around the ring he slows the horse to a trot and then to a walk and cools him off. he dismounts and slips the colt a sugar cube, then leads him back to the barn, untacks him and hoses him off before leading him to the paddock and turning him out and watching him gallop off, bucking* [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
