Jess and Suzie jumped out of the SUV and waved goodby to their dad as he drove away.They ran into the tack room where Helen(thier mom) was cleaning a saddle."Hey girls"she said"you ready for a riding lesson?"."you bet"said Jess"yeah"said Suzie"I'm really excited about learning to ride english"."OK,Jess you'll be riding flurry and Suzie you'll be riding Kiss(Hershey's Kiss)since you'll be riding her on the beach ride I think you should get us'ed to her".Both girls ran out of the tack room and grabbed lead ropes.Jess and Suzie walked out to the paddocks."Kiss is over there"said Jess,pointing out the pretty morgan are as she grazed happily.Jess walked the fermilier path to Flurry's paddock,while Suzie went to get Kiss.They both tacked up quickly and buckled on their helmets.Then they led their horses out to the arena and mounted.
Suzie wiggled slightly in the strange feeling english saddle(She only rides saddleseat and is very good at it but pretty clueless when it came to english or western)."This is wierd"she thought to herself."Hey!,Suzie remember when you ask her to move foward more.Just squeeze don't ask for a rack OK"Called Helen as she walked out of the barn.Helen sat on a bench next to the arena and watched as her two daughters warmed up their horses.
Jess was doing beautifuly,as usual and Suzie was doing well.Considering that this was her first time riding english.They finished warming up their horses and Helen called"come over here".Both girls walked over and halted infront of susan."Jess,you can go and jump Flurry.Don't jump any higher then 2'4.I'm going to work with Suzie"said Helen"OK Mom"Jess called as she troted towards a jump course.
"OK,Whats next"asked Suzie."Go out around the ring and then I'll tell you what to do".Suzie nudged Kiss into a walk and went out to the edge of the arena."Now squeeze her to trot and remember don't ask for a rack".Suzie just barely squeezed and Kiss just walked foward a little more."really squeeze"said Helen.Suzie sat down deeper and squeezed hard.Kiss moved into a a smooth and flowing trot.Suzie was not posting so Helen called"Post so that your rising out of the saddle when their outside leg is moving foward".Suzie consontrated hard and picked up the right posting.Kiss and Suzie looked very good together as they swept gracfully around the ring."OK,now halt"Helen called from the bottom of the ring.Suzie pulled back on the riens andb did several half halts."Very good"exclaimed Helen as suzie halted.Helen guided Suzie through the 6th intro level dressage test and she did very well.
Meanwhile Jess was working on a jump course.Jess lined Flurry up with the first jump of a 2'2 course.She squeezed hard,asking for a canter.Flurry stubbornly troted forward.Jess kicked hard,but flurry still wouldn't go.Jess put both riens in one hand and gave Flurry a whack on her rump.The fleabiten gray mare shot foward in a gallop.Jess slowed her down to a fast canter and squeezed at the foot of the first jump,a cavaletti.Flurry soared over it,But landed at a slow trot.By this time Jess was geting mad,she blew a strand of brown hair out of her face and kicked with all her might.Flurry,startled bucked and then in response to another whack of Jess's crop she cantered forward obediantly.They took the rest of the course easly.Unyil the last fence,a large oxcer.Flurry shied out around it and tried to bolt.jess held her in and whacked her hard with the crop several times.Then she steered her around aaaand lined up with the oxcer again.Flurry flew foward and took the jump easly.Jess brought her back down to a trot and troted over to where Helen was talking to Suzie."OK you guys go for a 5 minute trail ride to cool your horses off".
The girls went for a quick hack.Then they came back to the barn and untacked their horses.They groomed them,gave them carrots and turned them out in their paddocks.Then Helen called from the jeep and they ran out to her.Helen put the jeep into gear and they all hoped in and drove home.
