*she watches the gray mare carefully. the mare lies on her side, ready to give birth to the foal. my foal she thinks to herself, smiling. she watches the mare carefully and once the foal is born she enters the stall quietly and remember's Saddle's directions make sure theres nothing blocking the foal's nose and mouth, dip the unbilical cord in iodine and then start to rub the foal dry. she does everything then steps back as the mare rises and finishes drying the foal, then she bumps it with her nose and nickers, encouragung the foal to stand and nurse. the foal rises unsteadily and falls back into the straw, a mess of long legs. she laughs and watches her filly rise and stand swaying for a minute, then wobble over to her dam to nurse. she slurps loudly and her little tail swings back and forth. Saddle walks up behind Hannah and smiles. "Its a filly!!" hannah exclaims. Saddle smiles. "Lets leave them alone now, the foal will need her rest" Hannah walks away from the stall and goes to bring Dun in from the paddock. she tacks up the pony and leads him to the jumping ring, where she schools him over low fences to warm up, then figures out a course, the lowest fence 2' and the highest 3'6. together the girl and the pony fly over the fences. Dun snorts as he leaps over the 3'3 oxer and lands ligtly on the other side. Hannah praises him and heads for the combination. the first fence was 2'6, the second 3' and the third 3'6. it would take perfect timing and skill to clear the combination. squeeze, jump, land, squeeze, jump land, squeeze, jump land they go over cleanly and she takes the last 2 fences of the course, a 2'9 coop and a 3' birck wall then canters a circle and walks the pony out on the trails to cool him off. she stops at the river and convinces him to step in. he is nervous but moves into the water with very little trouble. after a minute she lets him walk outn and heads back to the barn, bathes him and turns him out, takes one more look at her new foal and walks out of the barn. "Come on, Michelle, i'll take you for a walk" she says as she heads down to the trail*
