Melanie brought Princess up from the pasture. It was warm and sunny, a perfect day to be in the saddle! Mel hooked Princess in cross ties and quickly groomed her. She was turning lighter and silkier as summer approached. Her dappled coat gleamed as Melanie finished. Then the 12 year old saddled her and put on her helmet. Grabbing a crop, Mel led her to the outdoor dressage arena and mounted the gorgeous 14.3 hand Arabian. Her dad was already in the dressage arena, holding a clipboard. "Hey, ready?" "Yes dad," Melanie replied, riding over. Her parents both gave riding lessons, and today her dad was giving her a dressage one. "Ok, warm up." First Melanie did 20 meter circles, half circles, figure eights, and serpentines at the walk, trot, and canter. "Sit deeper back in the saddle!" Brandon called. Melanie deepend her seat as they cantered a circle. Then they did transitions and lead changes. Princess was working willingly, and Melanie was having fun. "Ok, trot down the centerline and halt squarely." Melanie nodded. She urged the mare into a trot and posted to the flowing strides. At x she tugged slightly on the reins, stopping her seat. Princess halted immediatly, standing squarely and quietly. "Good girl!" Melanie praised. Then Brandon would call out diffrent moves and she had to perform them. "Extended trot to K..." Melanie sat deep and squeezed, asking for an extension. The mare's slender legs stretched out, swinging over the ground with light, long strides. The did an extended trot, then Brandon called for a 20 meter circle, collected canter. Princess did this smoothly. After doing that, they worked on bending to the inside and bending to the outside. After the lesson, Melanie put the mare up and went to see Bogsdan.
