Subject: Information wanted on BERESFORD

I am searching for any information about my grandfather, (Charles?) BERESFORD. (I know next to nothing!) Born towards the latter part of the 19th century, and died sometime during World War One. Apparently he was a Master in the British Merchant Navy. He "married" my grandmother, though it was discovered that he already had a wife! There was a court case - apart from bigomy he was arrested for fraud, and spend time in prison (so the story goes). My father would never talk about his father. According to family "gossip" he met my grandmother, name of Holmes, I think, in Malta. They evenually lived somewhere in Hampshire, England, where my father , Frederick Charles Beresford, was born, in 1910. I have thought for years how strange it is NOT to know who my grandfather was!!! Can anyone assist or is this information too little? Thank you.
