Hi

This is coming from my Work Computer [miserable look]

I've had Windows 98 crash on me at home, and I've been unable to access my programs for three sad and sorry days [sob sob]. I've still got my desktop and access to Windows Explorer (ie: File Manager) but whenever I try to do anything else, the screen locks, throws me to the "blue screen of death" and boinnnng! I'm back to the warning message below:

------
Invalid VxD dynamic link call from VWIN32(05) + 0000119E to device "0002", service 1.
Your Windows configeration is invalid. Run the Windows Setup program again to correct this problem.
-----

Of course, nothing is easy, I try to re-run the Setup from my Win98 disk, then it tells me

"Message SU99995003
Setup cannot load a required library (Ox138b)"

Okay, all double-dutch to me, so being an intrepid explorer, daring to go where I've never gone before, I try again and again.... getting different error messages willy nilly.

This one tends to strike my funny bone a bit.

"Suwin: This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor."

Oh yeah, am I likely to be able to talk to Bill Gates? I think not.

So, I says to myself, I said "Lindy, why don't you try going through ol' reliable DOS?" So, there I am in DOS, trying to run the windows setup.exe... hmmm, yep, I get the setup screen (hoorah!), but... now it's telling me to check my C Drive for errors by running ScanDisk/All before setup will continue. Okay, always one to do as I'm told (true!), I duly exited and still in DOS, I ran ScanDisk, yep, it's finding errors here and there, so I click to "fix errors" and now that little blue progress bar has reached the other side, so I'm ready to go.... back to running setup.exe.

But.... [groan]... after another 40 minutes, I finally give up, I'm in a loop, same thing over and over to keep running ScanDisk etc etc.

So, I'm in a quandry. Meanwhile, I'm eating truckloads of chocolate to counteract the withdrawal symptoms and the shakes. If I don't get my computer up and running soon, then there is going to be a lot of nasty swear words.

Send any advice (or condolences [mournful look]) to me here at work.

Lindy
